Are they liars, or just stupid?

One thing I’ve found you can safely assume about virtually anything committed right-wingers say is that it’s not true. Doesn’t match reality that you can quite often check easily. Which they never do. Another twist when they’re in charge of something is keeping secrets about things they do wrong.

What I don’t know for sure is whether a given specimen from this cesspool is lying or just stupid. There are some easy examples of both, of course. JD Vance is clearly not stupid; he has real accomplishments that took some thought. If you look at the things he’s said over the years, though, he’ll clearly spout anything he thinks will get him something — power, acclaim, approval from his boss, whatever. I would put Kristi Noem on the other end of the scale. She will also say and do whatever she thinks is opportune, regardless of facts, morality, or human standards. Her moves don’t seem considered, though; it’s more like she just reacts without much thought.

There’s another thing I’ve wondered about her since recently seeing a photo of her from when she was a member of congress about fifteen years ago. She looks different now, although the photos show exactly the same pose and expression. The present-day Noem has more hair, more makeup, bigger lips, and her face looks to me like she’s “had some work done.” Nothing wrong with that, of course. I just wonder about the motives behind that sort of thing, given her obvious ambitions. And of course the orange baby seems to base its nomination judgements on finding people who “look the part” regardless of their character, experience, or abilities.

I wonder if it even matters whether these appalling people (with the exception of the orange baby, which should not be considered a “person” at all) are aware of reality and lie anyway, or whether they have little or no grasp of reality. Maybe it doesn’t.

About Me

I’m Pete Harbeson, a writer located near Boston, Massachusetts. In addition to writing my own content, I’ve learned to translate for my loquacious and opinionated pup Chocolate Bossypaws. I shouldn’t be surprised, but she mostly speaks in doggerel. You can find her contributions tagged with Chocolatiana.

Check out my other blog, Techlimitics, where I’m grappling with the nature of simplicity.
