"Simplicity" rearranged

Well whattaya know…

My partner is Birdie;
we talked; she’s a “cat.”
We don’t have another
family member like that.

She’s small and she’s younger.
Her fur’s gray like smoke,
and we found out we laugh
at the same kind of joke.

We both started our lives
by just living outside
but now as a family
we are safe, warm, and dry.

Birdie is skinny;
she was hungry, way back
so I told her that here
we get meals and snacks.

But one thing she said
about joining our house
I don’t get: she told me
she’ll hunt for a mouse.

“There’s no mice,”
I replied, as I tilted my head.
“I bet that there could be”
is all Birdie said.

She told me that mice
are a cat’s favored prey;
I didn’t know that;
Only learned it today!
