Walk talk

When I go on a walk,
here’s the stuff I don’t like:
No cars, no trucks,
no squirrels, no bikes.

Well, a squirrel or two,
that’s not so darn hard;
at least on a walk
they’re not in my yard.

I love all the sniffs
if we walk in the woods,
where the sniffing is always
especially good.

My humans bring water
if I want a drink
which I tell them about
’cause we know they can’t think.

I like two kinds of walks:
there’s my regular routes
which I travel most days
when I hear “let’s go out.”

My favorite other
(that’s walk number two)
is a walk in a place
that to me is brand-new.

That’s when I can check
all the things that I sniff,
and you know what I find?
Things just ain’t all that diff.

I’m Pete Harbeson, a writer located near Boston, Massachusetts. In addition to writing my own content, I’ve learned to translate for my loquacious and opinionated puppy Chocolate. I shouldn’t be surprised, but she mostly speaks in doggerel.
