Simplicity rearranged

unmonetizable content since 1997

Is it simpler than it seems?

It seems like there are so many reasons for the decline and fall of the United States. But I keep wondering if it mostly comes down to one thing: the decades-long dismantling of public education, and of education in general. The people in the current cadre are not deep thinkers, with only (maybe) a couple of exceptions. And yet the orange baby was accepted into, and allowed to graduate from, undergraduate college and business school. Same with its son-in-law. These were prestigious institutions, too.

Anybody in the cadre in a position having anything to do with economics is known by that profession to have done shoddy work (or worse) and hold nonsensical opinions that are completely unmoored from reality.

There are loads of examples of MAGAts revealing basic lack of understanding of how our government is structured and works. The rats gnawing at the foundations of the US legal structure actually graduated from law schools. Often “prestigious” schools.

The degradation of public education has taken place over decades. It includes
• vilification of the teaching profession
• relative financial starvation of school systems
• invasion of school boards by ideologues with no interest in education but plenty of interest in indoctrination
• and plenty more.

Home schooling, and I would even dare to say home schooling centered around religionism, is another culprit, but one I have no contact with and don’t know enough about. I doubt that the effects we’re seeing around us now were planned in any sort of detail. As I noted above, the hyenas now running the country are generally not that smart. But they do have a visceral, feral, reactionary quality (embodied and encouraged by the orange baby and its caregivers). I’m sure they’re pretty happy about how well they’ve been succeeding. But I’m also pretty sure they’d be stunned if they had the wherewithal to seriously reflect on it.

About Me

I’m Pete Harbeson, a writer located near Boston, Massachusetts. In addition to writing my own content, I’ve learned to translate for my loquacious and opinionated pup Chocolate Bossypaws. I shouldn’t be surprised, but she mostly speaks in doggerel. You can find her contributions tagged with Chocolatiana.

Check out my other blog, Techlimitics, where I’m grappling with the nature of simplicity.
