Thumbs

I lounge on my grass;
I relax and I grin
until Hayley (my sister)
says “time to go in.”

When Hayley calls humans
soon one of them comes,
and opens the door
with those useful things — thumbs!

Those thumbs are a clever idea;
can’t be beat
for scratching our ears
and feeding us treats.

At breakfast and dinner
Human thumbs grant our wishes
by helping those tall folks
deliver our dishes.

Once in a while
when I can’t reach my toy
hands with thumbs reach it out
and I tell them “good boy!”

Humans are slow
and likely to blunder;
But one thing’s for sure:
those thumbs are a wonder

About Me

I’m Pete Harbeson, a writer (among other things) located near Boston, Massachusetts. In addition to writing my own content, I’ve learned to translate for my loquacious and opinionated pup Chocolate Bossypaws. No surprise, she mostly speaks in doggerel. You can find her contributions tagged with Chocolatiana.

Check out my other blog, Techlimitics, where I’m grappling with the nature of simplicity. You can also find some of my minor software projects at GitHub. Nothing very impressive. I mostly write tiny utilities in Python.

I find myself suddenly de-corporatized (their choice, not mine). To help keep the lights on, buy me a coffee!
