The US has been at war for 93% of its entire existence. Let’s just take the most recent ones. Korean War, 1950-1953. Two whole years of peace after that; an aberration. Then Vietnam, 1955-1975. A bit more peace, until invading Grenada for some reason in 1883, invading Panama in 1989, invading Iraq for some reason in 1990, invading Afghanistan in 2001 (and not getting out for 20 years), sending troops to Somalia for some reason in 2007 (they’re still there), to Yemen in 2002 and 2009 (again, still there), Northwest Pakistan in 2004, fighting the Islamic State starting in 2013, fighting in Niger starting in 2013, bombing Iraq this year, sending troops to Gaza to help Israel (yes, we do have troops there), as well as the mysteriously named “Operation Inherent Resolve” starting in 2014 (any idea what that even is).

Here are some very recent photos of the places in the world that are really at war. Most of the time with us.

Meanwhile, the effects for most of us are just some things getting more expensive. We’re instructed not to care, very explicitly in some cases. George W. Bush told us to just go shopping. That does seem to be our last remaining real skill.

Does this situation strike anyone else as immoral?
