Reliability: just a movie plot now?

The Ellison family, by all reports a particularly malodorous nest of ultra-rich sociopaths, is trying to buy most of the media companies in the US, if not the world. Because they’re frenemies (just wait) with the orange baby, the US regime is all for their monopoly-building. The legal teams from US states have been the kids with their fingers in the dike, holding back another flood of monopolization.

The lead kid just gave up. Rob Bonta is the attorney general of California (although his Wikipedia page clarifies that he’s a politician), and just made a deal with the rat king at the center of Oracle. The deal allows the monopoly to be formed. In exchange for…wait, in exchange for essentially nothing. Bonta apparently tried to save face about this, claiming the deal featured:
• requirements for making more films (not true; they only agreed to distribute films)
• not selling the Paramount or Warner Bros. studio lots (but only for five years; after that they can do whatever)
• an editorial board in charge of media content at CNN and CBS (see what I mean about “monopoly”?), but the rat king gets to appoint the board, so good luck with that. How has the Kennedy Center board been working out so far?
• a provision that all the requirements of the deal are nullified if there’s a strike (even if the rat king provokes the strike by, say, locking out workers), or if there’s an economic recession (brought on by the rat king’s pal the orange baby and its dabbling in wars and oil).

There’s an old saying — really more of an old truth — that every great fortune is founded on a great crime. It seems that in the US now, every great crime family is now free to lie, cheat, and steal all they want. After all, we elected one of ’em, and the only ones who can trust it are its frenemies.

About Me

I’m Pete Harbeson, a writer (among other things) located near Boston, Massachusetts. In addition to writing my own content, I’ve learned to translate for my loquacious and opinionated pup Chocolate Bossypaws. No surprise, she mostly speaks in doggerel. You can find her contributions tagged with Chocolatiana.

Check out my newsletter, Artisanal Scribbles, where I’m grappling with writing, authentic human authorship, integrity, and the craft of beauty in the AI age. You can also find some of my old software projects at GitHub. Nothing very impressive. I mostly wrote tiny utilities in Python and shell scripts. I’m mostly retired from coding nowadays.

I find myself suddenly de-corporatized (their choice, not mine). To help keep the lights on, buy me a coffee!
